Alcide De Gasperi University of Euroregional Economy in Józefów
Pursuant to the act of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education dated March 6, 2007, relative to the changes in registering of private universities WSGE is currently listed under the number 257. In 27th of September, 2004, WSGE adopted the name of Alcide de Gasperi, an eminent Italian statesman.
WSGE offers a wide range of courses at several departments: Administration, Pedagogy, Management, Internal Security. The Administration and Pedagogy Departments were created between the years of 2002 and 2003. In 2004 the Management Department was set up, and the next year Environmental Protection studies sprang into life. In 2007 WSGE was awarded permission to establish Internal Security first –cycle studies (Bachelor’s program). The year of 2008 witnessed establishing at WSGE second- cycle studies at the Department of Pedagogy ( Master’s degree program). Finally, on the 30th of December, 2010, WSGE was permitted to run second-cycle studies at the Department of Internal Security.
In the academic year of 2004 – 2005 a series of lectures were initiated called Wykłady Otwarte I Seminaria Naukowe ( Free Lectures and Science Seminars) during which lecturers as well as other people discussed selected problems with local citizens and guests. Among well known public figures invited to participate in the events were e.g prof. Longin Pastusiak, bishop Tadeusz Płocki, and Wojciech Wierzejski. WSGE belongs to the Interuniversity Centre for Research and Cooperation with Eastern and South eastern Europe (CIRCEOS). On the 1sr of March, 2005 the University in Józefów was granted Erasmus University Charter whereby it became part of elite universities cooperating with each other through the Erasmus Program.
In May, 2005 WSGE commenced the implementation of so called Isola Didactica program which enables to communicate with the University of Bari, Italy (Università degli Studi di Bari) via Internet. Through the Isola Didactica system it is made possible for Polish students, lecturers and all persons concerned were to attend professors’ lectures and participate in scientific conferences In Italy.
The academic year of 2004-2005 also saw winning by WSGE two European projects within the Leaonardo da Vinci Program. These projects will help the students of WSGE to get an internship In Italy and to obtain a diploma that is recognized by both the Italian and Polish university.
Between July 1, 2009 and June, 30, 2009 – WSGE began to implement the project called: “Creating the developing potential of WSGE in Józefów
( Budowa potencjału rozwojowego Wyższej Szkoły Gospodarki Euroregionalnej w Józefowie). The project is co-founded by the European Union from the European Social Fund (ESF) (paragraph 4.1.1 of the Human Capital Program). The ESF paramount goal is to increase the developing potential of WSGE by enhancing the curriculum offer and strengthening the practical elements of education. Currently the University is working upon enlarging it educational didactic center up to 4000 sq. meters.
The mission of the University of Euroregional Economy
WSGE is keenly interested in the development of neighboring districts lying in the vicinity of Warsaw, namely: Otwock, Wawer, Mińsk, Piaseczno, Garwolin, as well as the south – eastern part of the capital of Poland. As most prospective applicants hail from these areas, the University endeavours to strengthen the links with these districts by launching regional co-operative initiatives in conjunction with the local authorities and economic institutions.
It education mission is directed towards fulfilling local needs and resolving regional economic and self-government problems within the European perspective. Thanks to UE programs such as LLP Erasmus, WSGE maintains active cooperation with a number of international universities and seeks to establish contacts and partnership with their local governments which results in signing the partner city agreement between Józefów, Poland and Bitetto, Italy.
Apart from its statutory activities, WSGE carries out primary scientific research, applied research as well as industrial research.
WSGE combines the didactic process with developing strategic approach to an innovative regional economy around Warsaw. These efforts are seconded by a close cooperation with Euro – Centrum, the industrial- technology park in Katowice. Within the two years, the University aims to set up an educational cluster consisting of high schools and colleges to assist the graduates to further their professional careers. WSGE executes its education mission in cooperation with the university in Mińsk (Wyższa Szkoła Nauk Społecznych im. ks. J. Majki).
The Goals of the University of Regional Economy in Józefów.
WSGE offers first –cycle studies(Bachelor’s program) at several departments, namely: Administration, Pedagogy, Internal Security, Enviromental Protection. Second-cycle studies (Master’s program) involve Pedagogy and Internal Security. The curriculums reflect the ministerial requirements and match the demands of an innovative economy. The education process is supported by European projects grants. A rich variety of trainings, internships ( partly co-financed by WSGE), workshops, postgraduate studies help both the didactic staff and students and graduates to constantly to acquire new qualifications.
The courses, mostly in Polish, are in the form of traditional lectures, tutorials, lab classes, however, courses block in English for foreign students are now available. The university regularly contributes to the academic environment by publishing reports in its own magazine that boasts of ministerial recognition.
WSGE runs a career advisory service that monitors professional activity of their graduates. It carries out research in their workplaces in order to evaluate their competitiveness on the job market. The WSGE graduates usually find employment in local and central state authority institutions.
European education programs
WSGE widely make use of European Union education programs. The most popular is LLP Erasmus that fosters participation the University’s students and its cadre and staff in international academic exchange. Within the LLP Erasmus programme students can also go on an international internship. To better promote inter-universities partnership, WSGE launched the distance learning system commonly referred to as E- Learning
WSGE and national middle schools and high schools coopperation
Since the opening of the University it has been in close contact in middle and high schools. Education and training campaigns for the youth are launched as well as general knowledge contests in close conjunction with other national institutions, e.g the Police authorities. WSGE take pains to maintain cooperation with other Polish universities concerning running second-cycle studies. It focuses on the education offer, the realization of research programs and obtaining financial education assistance from the UK.
